It’s been recently exposed that Valve Gaming Company has a “flat surface” leadership style. This means that no-one reports to anyone and there’s not triangle of leadership within the office. The office space is also relaxed swell as desks were bought to be mobile so that if an employee is unhappy with their placement in the office then they can move their desk to a more comfortable placement, even if it means using the freight lift to move the desk to a different floor.

Respect is an important key skill that the new members of the valve team have had to adapt and learn so that they can work in this environment and respect is a very important key to produce an effective workplace. Respect does not mean that one person demands more respect than a single person. While working for video production in the creative media industry it is very important to have respect for your fellow teammates as you have to rely on them for different jobs within the workplace, especially on set. On a set, a sound engineer becomes just as important as a director or a cinematographer because every aspect on a production is as important as each other. So  if you’re part of a production team that is not happy working together, try take a more of a “Valve” style to teamwork.
