One of Mango Studio’s most recent video productions in the area of Newcastle was taking part in Home Group’s Gateshead Innovation Village initiative through creating a series of time lapse photography films.

 

Being one of the UK’s largest providers of high quality and integrated housing, Home Group always strives to help people ‘find the home that’s right for them’. Through this initiative, the social enterprise addresses the current housing crisis and looks into finding more efficient building methods. The main task of the project is to  

‘build a village from scratch using a mix of traditional and modular homes, energy efficient and smart technologies and test their ongoing performance’.

 

Through this initiative, Home Group has introduced modular housing developments –  where the different elements that make a home are constructed in a factory, then taken to the building site and linked together. This method allows the modular construction to be completed in just two weeks, as compared to the ten months usually needed for building a traditional “bricks and mortar” house. 

 

Now that the project is complete, the Innovation Village consists of 35 modular houses, including five different house types, alongside six traditional bricks and mortar homes. The brand new community of the village will play a vital role in Home Group’s further research into construction methods and the use of smart technology in social housing.

 

Our Mango Studio team filmed the construction of a selection of the new houses, using the modern time lapse production methods. These short videos follow Home Group’s work process on the village from beginning to end, and showcase the initiative’s main goal – putting into practice a smarter and more energy-efficient housing development.
