Mindfulness is a form of meditation that allows one to be fully present and aware of what you are doing, whilst ensuring that you are not overly sensitive or overwhelmed by things going on around you.
There are significant benefits that come from mindfulness, as it gives us time in our lives where we can reflect on our thoughts and ideas. It is not an obscure practice that requires hours of dedication, rather it is merely a reflection of how we already are. In many ways, it is more than just a practice. It deepens our own understanding, helping us to find peace in the frantic world that we live in today.
Having worked with Skills for People and the NHS Foundation Trust, it was amazing to see its potential in becoming a transformative social phenomenon. It had this innate ability to reduce one’s stress almost immediately, by encouraging people to reflect on individual experiences. It was incredible to see how the participants experienced significant benefits from this form of meditation.
It is without a doubt that this new way of living has the potential to not only help people engage with others but help them understand and respond to seemingly difficult problems that may arise in their lives. Could this be the answer to our hectic lives?
