Our next collaborative film production project aims to educate the potential students of Northumbria University, about the valuable effect that training to be a Learning Disabilities (LD) Nurse can have on those in need of extra support.

It explains how this care is needed in order for them to live a more equal and better quality of life.

The Newcastle video production explores the dynamic role of these nurses and demonstrates the opportunities available, for a young person graduating in the field, to progress their career.

The film advertises that there is not simply one clear-cut direction for a nurse specialising in learning disabilities and shows that there are many branches to explore.

For example, working in a diverse range of environments, from educational to pastoral; with various different ages and different disabilities.

In order to represent the rewarding nature of such a career, the corporate film introduces the perspective of those living with learning disabilities and how the support of specialised nurses positively impacts their day-to-day lives.

The promotional video will act as a prospectus for students researching their next steps into further education; advising on the key skills required in the field and addressing the reality of working as an LD Nurse in opposition to the student’s expectations.

The film will be in the public domain within the next couple of weeks… WATCH THIS SPACE…

With a number of contracts already with the NHS, we are pleased to showcase our latest collaboration.

Commissioned by North of England Commissioning Support (NECS), the video will be distributed by the film’s interviewer, Suzie, in hospitals and care homes across the North East and Cumbria.

The Transformation Programme began following the realisation that those currently living in a hospital environment could, with the correct support, be living a better quality of life at home and within the community.

The video aims to educate families, health care professionals and those with learning disabilities or autism about understanding their rights. These rights being their entitlement to live their lives like anyone else; in high quality housing, with good health, education and employment opportunities.

Mango attended a typical session at the Skills for People centre near Newcastle City Centre, and filmed activities, discussions and interviews with participants and course leaders. This video production created the basis for a corporate video that would be used by the client to advertise the programme, with the hope of accessing more funding.

Two years later, Mango have once more been invited by the NHS to work on a video production for their Mindfulness programme. However, this time the film production will be in the form of a documentary.

The documentary followed an 12 week Mindfulness course assisting those who have special needs, with the aim of the video production being to demonstrate just how useful this programme is to those involved and how helpful it could be in the future to potential participants.

Our film production is to be used on the NHS website to promote the course, and we hope that the visuals of a video production will be a great tool to help raise awareness of this great cause. We also wish the best success for those involved with the programme.

Now I was not sure if this video was fake/Computer Generated or if it was real footage but it made me think of the wonders of the camera that the Spacecraft used. Working in Video Production makes me realise the hard work and sheer power that would be required to make this video if it was real.

Time lapse photography may be the way that they created this video. Which would require a camera with a large battery life to cover the surfaces that were covered in the video. For those not in the know, Time Lapse photography is when a camera takes photos on a regular basis at a specific time to create the illusion of movement. Now this would be very awkward for the Spacecraft. They may have chosen this option to have high quality images of the surface with the sway of a video camera that could happen.

But they could have paid out a lot of money for a high quality video camera along the lines of a Phantom that can shoot up to 1 million frames per second (yes! 1 million….technology is crazy).

I’m sure there’s a reasonable explanation to how they captured the images and maybe I missed a bit in the article i read about it as to how they actually did do it, but I enjoy the speculation and was set in awe at the sheer power that a lense has of showing worlds we may never see.

This is my first personal shoot with Mango Studios since I began my placement which as given me the opportunity to, as a production assistant, prepare for a shoot which is a vital part of the Video Production industry.

Firstly you need to think about accomodation for the night, the cheapest price may not always be the best choice as you need to think about the location of your accommodation in relation to where you’re shooting and how hard it will be to get up in the morning and travel that distance.

Then you need to get well met with your equipment. I have experience a boom mic and sound recorder before but was never involved in controlling it so I had to get to grips with setting up and unravelling a seemingly endless cable.

Then we needed to think of a production schedule, which consist of contact information, location information, shot list and for this shoot, where we’re conducting interviews, we had to set out interview questions for certain people on the production.

Editing, sound mixing, colour grading, special effects and the list goes on and on are as essential as production stage. At Mango, we have our own post house, this way it is easier to liaise with the clients and make sure that we are meeting their needs and requirements.

Our film production office has one vital rule and that is backups. Where is the back up stored? How to protect the files against all the possible hazards? Those are just a few questions that you will be dealing with when you are at the post-production stage.

Thinking about how you’ll store the rushes, masters and everything in advance will keep things creatively and financially in check and makes life a lot easier for all the film production crew.

• The work will not come to you. Getting the big break while sitting around waiting is about as likely as winning the lottery. You must put a lot of hard graft and be passionate about what you do. Our video and film production team, work extremely hard and we are all passionate about what we do and it could be a corporate video or just live web streaming an event.

• We treat all the clients with the same respect. No matter what your budget or what the project is, we will look after it with care and attention. Act like the job is beneath you and you will start losing the jobs to other companies that have fewer attitudes.

• Always give everything to every single job that you do. Not everyone can make a corporate video with cinematic effects. Making something of nothing is a great way to improve your film making skills and adds to your film production values. Our job is tough but enormously satisfying when we deliver the final video.

• Find a good team to work with. Our video production office in Newcastle is working with some of the most talented directors and team crew from all around the UK.  A team you can trust is worth more than what you think.

• Using expensive cameras or tools won’t necessarily make you a better film production company. It is your skills that define your work. Concentrate on content and that is where the real value is.

In the end, never stop learning. Every project, is a new experience where you can learn new things and finally have faith in yourself and your team, because if you don’t nobody else will.
