Our video “Tomorrow’s Leaders” continues our series of videos focusing on social care services in the region. This video showcases the work of the Learning Disability Network in the North East and Cumbria, where a programme of the same name is creating unique opportunities. This programme offers extended training in effective leadership skills for people with learning disabilities and/or autism.
Network Leader Judith Thompson, who commissioned this video, says that, “We felt it necessary to commission the programme to make sure that people with a learning disability and/or autism are central to all of our transformational work across Cumbria and the North East. We are only going to be able to achieve that if people with learning disabilities will lead us alongside families and staff who work in services.”
We produced “Tomorrow’s Leaders” to highlight the beneficial impact this training programme has on the lives of those involved, not only by progressing to significant leadership roles but achieving by finding different ways of learning, and prioritising mental health during this process.
In our video, you can learn more about Stuart Mcmurray’s journey through the Tomorrow’s Leaders programme, which provided him with the right training to secure his first paid job with Mencap. Stuart’s story is just one example of the difference that this programme has had on those involved. He tells us that since joining the programme, “I’ve found myself. I’m more positive in myself. […] It’s been the best thing in my life.”
We are delighted to have provided video production for this brilliant cause, and we hope you will enjoy watching this video to find out more about this fantastic service in the North East.
